Many people swear by the miracle of coconut oil... do you know about these 18 things you can do with it?
1. As the headline suggests, you can literally bathe in the stuff!
Okay so don't go out and buy 40 litres of coconut oil and fill up the tub with it. About a quarter of a cup is plenty. It will make your skin as smooth as a baby's bottom. Add Epsom salts for an even more powerful effect.
2. Argan oil is expensive. Coconut oil is not.
Yes, you can use coconut oil in your hair. It has a similar effect to argan oil products, but you don't have to pay $50 for a bottle. More like $5. Researchers believe that its relative high affinity for hair protein and ability to penetrate deep into the hair shaft accounts for coconut oil’s superior performance.

3. More energy, naturally
Especially when partnered with the superfood, chia seeds. The medium chain triglycerides in coconut oil, when partnered with chia seeds, will give you an energy boost when you need a mid-afternoon pickup, or after a strenuous workout.

4. Boost your smoothie
Add one or two tablespoons to your smoothie ingredients to add a cholesterol fighting element to your favourite smoothie. It will also help the texture of smoothies to become, well, smoother.
5. Alternative to that fatty, buttery popcorn
Popcorn in itself isn't bad for you, it's all the salt and butter that's added to it that makes it such a guilty pleasure. But now you can have your popcorn and eat it too. Pop organic corn kernels in coconut oil and then drizzle with just a touch more melted coconut oil and some sea salt.
6. Healthy alternative to other fatty oils
Unlike some other cooking oils, coconut oil has a very high tolerance to heat, making it incredibly safe (and healthier) to cook with.
7. Natural throat lozenge
Use coconut oil in place of store-bought lozangers that are usually made using artificial flavors and colors. Try swallowing ½-1 teaspoon of coconut oil up to 3 times daily to ease the pain of a sore throat or cough.

8. Wrinkle prevention
Dry skin wrinkles more easily than moisturized skin. Coconut oil can help to naturally keep skin moisturized, and is gentle enough to use in under-eye areas.
9. Remove make up without harsh chemicals
We've all been there - furiously scrubbing our eyes with a make up wipe trying to get rid of that pesky waterproof mascara. Coconut oil easily lifts make up without putting harsh chemicals onto your skin, or needing to scrub hard.
10. Natural body moisturizer
Coconut oil absorbs quickly and isn't too greasy, so it makes an awesome skin moisturizer. At room temperature, it is solid, but if you rub it with your hands it quickly becomes a liquid.
11. Natural Lip Balm
Commercial lip balms are packed with unhealthy (and potentially toxic) ingredients, which is particularly concerning since we put them on our lips. The healing properties of coconut oil helps to nourish the lips, provides a touch of sun protection, and most importantly, is safe to consume.

12. Smooth Shaving Cream
Yup, it can be used as a shaving cream too.
13. Sunburn remedy
Especially if you do the next tip. Apply liberally to sunburned skin to help with the healing process.
14. Although not recommended, it will help you tan (or burn!)
Yes, tanning with coconut oil can help to give you a deeper tan. Use this one cautiously, though, as sun safety is more important than having a tan.
15. Fix dry cuticles
Cuticle oil can be expensive, and you only get around 20mL in a bottle. Coconut oil can easily replace cuticle oil if you have dry cuticles.
16. Help fix and prevent dry heels/feet
Walking around all day in barefeet in summer can take its toll on your feet. Rubbing coconut oil can help to keep them soft and reduce the risk of getting cracked heels. Just watch that you don't slip over!
17. Hair detangler (especially after being in the ocean)
As a kid, I used to get dreadlocks from being in the ocean all day. Coconut oil helps to detangle hair smoothly, so you don't need to fight with the hair brush (as much).
18. Exfoliation
If you put coconut oil onto an exfoliating glove (or even a wash cloth if you don't own one), it works fantastically as an exfoliating aid.
